February Graduate Education Advocate: Wade Pearson

Friday, February 21, 2020

February's Graduate Education Advocate, Wade Pearson, is Production Service Manager at the Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence on Stillwater's campus.

For Wade Pearson, and therefore the Institute for Teaching & Learning Excellence, one idea lingers in the back of his mind – how can I help?

Pearson, who is the Production Services Manager for ITLE, has repeatedly found the answer to this question by using his knowledge, expertise, and talents to directly help faculty and staff create video and audio projects here on campus.

“Everyone needs an audio and video nowadays,” Pearson said. “That’s kind of in the age of the internet – everybody needs something.”

Pearson has been instrumental in his work with the Graduate College, recording and live-streaming events such as the 3-Minute Thesis competition as well as each semester’sCommencement ceremonies on OStateTV. In doing so, his team have made it possible to share these important moments with the students who participate – providing them the opportunity to send the audio and video of the competition or ceremony to possible employers or loved ones who were unable to make these occasions in person.

Outside of the 3MT participants or that semester’s graduates, the audio and video recorded by Pearson is also uploaded for a wider audience via OStateTV so that those that are interested in the Graduate College can view from all over.

Pearson’s passion for helping people also leads him to get the word out about ITLE and the resources they provide – something, he says, often goes unnoticed.

“A lot of people will come over here and go, ‘Oh! I didn’t even know this place existed.’ So the more we do, the more people will know about us and the more they’ll want to use us to help with all of their projects, Pearson said.

In the future, as Pearson is more successful in getting the word out, he hopes to continue serving the OSU community - knowing technology is always advancing and his assistance will always be needed.

“I’d like to think in the future, [ITLE will] become even more involved in providing support for the Graduate College and whoever needs our support on campus to further their career and success.
