Steps to Applying

  1. Review the admissions requirements for your desired program.

Each program determines its own admission requirements. Please review the program requirements carefully.

  2. Complete any pre-qualifying exams or coursework.

Among other requirements, some programs require submission of a test score, such as the GRE, GMAT, or MAT (Miller’s Analogy Test). You must contact the program about its admission requirements to determine which tests are required. All reports are shared with any program to which you apply.

  3. Gather your supporting documents

Every program requires official transcripts, and many also ask for items like letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, writing samples, or a résumé/CV.

Prepare each document in an accepted file format and upload it as instructed in the application. Programs may not review late or incomplete materials, so be sure to submit everything by the deadline.

  4. Complete the online application

Complete the online application carefully and select the correct program, degree level, and term. Upload supporting documents as instructed in the application portal.

Application changes and deferrals

  • Apply to a different program

If you have already submitted an application and decide to apply to a different program, you must submit a new application and pay a new application fee.

If you no longer wish to continue with your original application, contact the Graduate College in writing so the program can be notified.

  • Deferring admission

Admission deferrals may be granted for up to one year with program approval. Deferrals are only processed for students who have been admitted but need to change the start term for their admission. Students who wish to defer for longer than one year generally need to decline their admission offer and reapply. Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis.

Deferral requests should be initiated through the application portal.
