Graduate Faculty Information
Definitions of Graduate Faculty Membership
- Full Member
Full members may teach graduate courses, serve on, serve as research advisor, and serve as chair of master’s and doctoral committees. Full member may also serve as the Graduate College Representative (formerly Outside Member) on doctoral committees.
- Associate Member
Associate membership has three levels:
Associate Member Level 1: teach graduate courses
Associate Member Level 2: teach graduate courses and serve on, serve as research advisor of master's committees
Associate Member Level 3: teach graduate courses and serve on, serve as research advisor of master's and doctoral committees
Associate Members may not serve as the chair or as the Graduate College Representative (formerly Outside Member) of master’s and doctoral committees
- Emeritus Members
Emeriti 1: teach graduate courses
Emeriti 2: teach graduate courses and serve on, serve as research advisor of master's committees
Emeriti 3: teach graduate courses and serve on, serve as research advisor of master's and doctoral committees
Emeriti Members may not serve as the chair or as the Graduate College Representative (formerly Outside Member) of master’s and doctoral committees. Emeriti members may not vote on matters presented to the Subject Matter Groups and to the Graduate Faculty as a whole even if they were Full members while employed at OSU.
Requirements for Graduate Faculty Membership
- Full Member
Requirements for Eligibility:
Earned doctoral degree (or highest degree considered in the discipline as a terminal degree) from an appropriately accredited institution; Record of ongoing scholarship as appropriate to the individual’s discipline.
As a part of an appointment to a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at Oklahoma State University in a graduate degree granting program, the appointment includes Full Membership in the Graduate Faculty.
Non-tenure track faculty members who are affiliated with Oklahoma State University as professional persons (e.g., leader and/or assistant leader of Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit) as defined in the Oklahoma State University Faculty Handbook and who have appropriate credentials may request status as Full Members of the Graduate Faculty through their respective Subject Matter Group.

- Associate Member
Requirements for Eligibility:
Associate Members are (1) non-OSU faculty members or (2) individuals at Oklahoma State University who hold non-tenure track appointments as outlined in the Oklahoma State University Faculty Handbook.
