About the ITA Program

The International Teaching Assistant (ITA) Program is a collaborative effort between the English Department and the Graduate College that supports multilingual instructors at OSU in developing and improving their linguistic, presentation, and interactional skills in the American classroom and other academic settings.

The ITA Program supports ITAs and other multilingual instructors through:

• A four-part professional development workshop series is offered each semester.
• Two separate 2-credit-hour courses:
  • GRAD 5082 – Oral Proficiency
  • GRAD 5092 – Language in the American Classroom

The ITA Program also conducts the ITA Exam for GTAs who want to serve in an instructional capacity and meet certain language requirements. For more information on the requirements for the ITA Exam, how to prepare for the exam, and to register, please visit the ITA Exam page.

In addition to supporting multilingual instructors, the ITA Program works with the Directors of Student Academic Success to support students of multilingual instructors in improving their intercultural communication skills and their ability to succeed in courses with multilingual instructors.
