Admissions Requirements

Please note that the following requirements pertain to the Graduate College. Please visit your program website for additional program admissions requirements.

  • Transcripts

All applicants are required upload a copy of their transcript for bachelor’s degree(s) conferred or pending, and for any graduate or professional coursework or degrees with an official translation. The copies will be sufficient for the review process. Upon your arrival on Campus, you must present your original Degree Certificate to our department.

If you do not have a copy of your transcript(s), kindly obtain and upload these prior to finalizing your application.

Beginning with the Fall 2024 semester, Oklahoma State University will no longer accept three-year bachelor’s degrees received in India as equivalent to the 4-year bachelor’s degrees received in the US. This is in accordance with updated AACARO EDGE (electronic database for global education) guidance. From Fall 2024 and beyond, to be eligible for a graduate program at OSU, applicants with degrees from India must have at minimum 1) a four-year bachelor’s degree OR 2) a master’s degree in addition to the three-year bachelor’s degree.

Please do not send copies of your documents via mail.

It is important to note that the Graduate College does not require external credential evaluations. The GPA/ grades conversion is processed internally by our admission officers.

  • English Requirement for Graduate Admissions

To be considered for admission, international applicants are expected to submit evidence of English proficiency in the form of official scores of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or PTE Academic examinations. A waiver of this requirement can be obtained for applicants who have completed a baccalaureate or graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, at which English is the primary language of instruction and located in a country in which English is a recognized primary language. Please check the list of OSU approved English Speaking countries.

Note that specific graduate programs may have additional requirements.

English language tests remain valid for two years from the test date. Minimum overall accepted scores are TOEFL 79 iBT, 53 PTE Academic or 6.5 IELTS academic stream.

    Submitting scores

While self-reported scores are accepted for the initial review process, the official scores must be sent before final review for admission.

Official scores must be sent by the testing agency electronically to the graduate college:

    • TOEFL: The ETS Institution code for OSU is 6546.

    • IELTS: Request the test center to send the scores via e-delivery to the “Oklahoma State University – Graduate College – Stillwater Campus” account.

Applicants who present a TOEFL score of at least 61 iBT, but less than 79 iBT (or an IELTS academic stream score of 6.0) and who demonstrate unusual academic promise may be admitted to graduate study on conditional status upon petition to the Graduate College by the graduate program. Such applicants admitted with conditional status must successfully complete prior to enroll in graduate level courses a minimum of 12 weeks of study at an intensive English program approved by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education State Regents. At least two-thirds (eight weeks) of the 12 weeks must be instruction at an advanced level. You may contact the Graduate College at  grad-i@okstate.edu for a list of approved intensive English programs.

  • Application fee

A non-refundable fee of $75 for each submitted application. Fee waivers are not available for international students, except current OSU students or alumni, who are eligible for a single application fee waiver.

The graduate College avoids involving third party agents or agencies in the recruitment of international students. Due to FERPA regulations, the admissions team does not disclose application information to recruiters or their families.

  • Application Deadlines

The deadlines below are Graduate College deadlines for processing of applications. Please note that your Program of interest may have an earlier deadline, especially if assistantships are part of an admission offer; check with them to be sure.

For Graduate College processing, international applications must be complete and Program recommendations must be entered no later than May 1st for Fall admission, October 1st for Spring admission, and February 1st for Summer admission. Applications completed after the deadline may be reviewed, but there is no guarantee.

To request this exception, please contact your program with a justification. Note that these deadlines, while normally sufficient, do not guarantee processing will be completed in time for admission to the semester of choice, especially given the delays that can occur in scheduling visa appointments in the various home countries. In cases where the semester of choice for admission cannot be achieved, applicants may request admission deferral.

  • Financial Guarantee

Financial Guarantee (Confirmation of Financial Resources) is required for applicants who anticipate holding F1 or J1 visas.

Please note your application will be reviewed without uploading a Financial Guarantee. However, failing to submit the document after offered admission may result in delay with issuing your I-20 or DS-2019. To upload the form with your application, complete the Financial Guarantee form along with the necessary documents specified on the document as pdf, .doc, .docx, .rtf, or .txt.
