Award Overview

The Graduate Research Excellence Awards recognize graduate students for outstanding research accomplishments demonstrated in their theses or dissertations.

This award is presented in partnership with the OSU Research Office and represents one of the university’s highest public recognitions for the research conducted by graduate students. The program highlights the achievements of exceptional scholars and supports a culture that promotes innovative research across disciplines.

    • A Presidential Letter of Commendation
    • Recognition during the Graduate College Awards Ceremony
    • Public acknowledgment of their research contributions
  • Eligibility
    • All departments and interdisciplinary programs offering master’s and doctoral degrees may participate.
    • Graduate students must have defended their thesis or dissertation between March 1, 2025, and March 1, 2026.
    • Students must have graduated in Spring, Summer, or Fall 2025, or be eligible to graduate in Spring 2026.

    Nomination Procedure

    • Nominations must be submitted by the Graduate Coordinator of the academic program.
    • Each program is limited to one nomination submission.
    • All nomination materials must be combined into one PDF file and submitted by email to: grad.dean@okstate.edu
  • Required Nomination Materials

    1.    Student name as it appears on official OSU records

    2.    Student contact information (email, local and permanent address, phone number)

    3.    Degree to be received and major area of study

    4.    Research advisor name and graduate program name.

    5.    Completed Media Release Form (required for publication and promotional use)

    6.    Student CV or résumé (2 pages maximum)

    7.    Unofficial OSU graduate transcript

    8.    Student-authored research description (2 pages) including:

    • Title of research
    • Research focus or problem definition
    • Methodology
    • Results
    • Contributions to the field
    • Publications related to the research (if applicable)

    9.    Supporting letter signed by members of the student’s thesis or dissertation advisory committee describing the nominee’s research achievements.

  • Selection Process

    Award recipients are selected by Graduate Council Subject Matter Group Chairs, who appoint review committees from each faculty group.

    Each subject matter group may select:

    • One master ’s-level award recipient
    • One doctoral-level award recipient.
  • Important Dates

    Nomination submissions must be received by the deadline specified in the official call for nominations. Award recipients and their faculty advisors are recognized during the annual Graduate College Awards Ceremony, held as part of Graduate Education Month.
