Award Overview

The Graduate Teaching Assistant Award recognizes an outstanding graduate teaching assistant who demonstrates excellence in teaching and meaningful contributions to the academic experience at Oklahoma State University.

Graduate teaching assistants play an important role in supporting the university’s instructional mission through classroom instruction, student engagement, and academic support. This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate dedication to teaching, leadership, and service within the graduate student community.

    The award is presented during Graduate Education Month at the annual Graduate College and Graduate and Professional Student Government Association (GPSGA) Awards Ceremony.

  • Eligibility
    • Must be enrolled as a graduate student during the current academic year
    • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5
    • Open to nominations from faculty members, administrators, or graduate students
    • Self-nominations are allowed

    Both master’s and doctoral students are eligible for this award.

  • Nomination Process

    Nominations of master's and doctoral students may be initiated by any faculty member, administrator, or graduate student (including self-nominations).

    • Students nominating themselves should submit all their materials in the GPSGA section of the Graduate Student Community on Canvas by the deadline. If all materials are not included, the nomination may not be considered for the award.
    • Faculty members, administrators, or graduate students (nominating someone besides themselves), should submit all the nomination materials on canvas by the deadline with the Outstanding GTA Award Nomination. In this submission, the nominator should indicate their knowledge of and relationship to the student nominee. If the nomination is not received by the deadline with the title listed, it may not be considered for the award.
  • Required Nomination Materials
    • Nomination submissions must include:
    • Curriculum vitae (CV) or resume, including teaching and mentoring experience
    • Academic transcript demonstrating GPA
    • Contact information and academic program details
    • Supporting documentation of teaching effectiveness and contributions
  • Announcement of finalist and winners

    Finalists will be notified following the nomination review process. The award recipient will be announced during the Graduate College Awards Ceremony, held as part of Graduate Education Month. All graduate students and faculty are invited to attend. The recipient will receive a certificate and award at the ceremony and is encouraged to make every effort to attend.
